Tips For Stress Management In The Workplace

At Lifehouse we prioritise all kinds of wellness – including both physical and mental health. That’s why we provide our staff with Mental Health First Aid Training, which helps us to identify when others are struggling and provide the support they need.

But it’s also vital for us all as individuals to assess and manage our own stress levels in the workplace. Here are some wellbeing tips that you can use to stay mentally fit during the working day:

Learn more about your stress levels

Find out what triggers stress for you and try to avoid those where possible, or work on developing coping mechanisms. Work out which types of stress might actually be useful to you as motivational tools.

Set yourself up well for the day

Avoid arriving at work feeling frazzled by establishing a good morning routine where you have time for any tasks that are important to you, such as exercise or journaling.

Organise your space and manage expectations

Keep your desk or workspace clear from clutter, keeping any required tools within arm’s reach. Clarify daily goals with a supervisor and make to do lists to break down bigger projects into smaller tasks.

Get away from your desk at lunch

Make sure to change your environment during your midday break. That way you can get some physical space and clear your mind before embarking on the next stage of the day.

Control perfectionism

It’s wonderful to be a high achiever, but it can affect your mental health if you constantly feel like you’re coming up short of your own expectations. Focus on just doing your best and congratulating yourself for small victories along the way.

None of these steps are the perfect solution to mental health struggles, but they can help you assess the underlying issues that need to be dealt with.

The most important thing is to have a good team of people around you that will look out for your best interests. Here at Lifehouse we are a family, and family always has your back!
